30 percent of health spending on new technology is lost to misuse, say experts Silvia C. Carpallo
A Journey of the WTO, in collaboration with the Kovacs Foundation calls into question the proper use of innovative health technologies in Spain. Therefore, they have met a number of experts to propose a new road map, designed to institutions, professionals and the rating agencies, become more efficient this large percentage of health expenditure.
Madrid (26/11/1910) -. Health spending suffers a steady increase and its causes can not be explained by population aging. The reality is that 50 percent of that growth is represented by continued investment in new health technologies. However, this figure does not translate into improved population health, as global average, 30 per cent of this expenditure has been shown to splurge on use of health technologies is not efficient, a figure that increases in cases as in the lumbar MRI, which amounts to 67 percent. Similarly, other innovations such as the current efficiency in the use of the Da Vinci robot is also shown in doubt. These are the data used in the conference "The adoption of health innovations: critical analysis and recommendations", organized by the Medical College (WTO), the foundation for training (FFOMC) and the Kovacs Foundation.

The main reasons for this lack of efficiently summarizing Francisco M. Kovacs, president of the Kovacs Foundation, distinguishing three cases, the use of procedures that have proven effective, the use of technology to cases where not indicated, or non-use of innovations that have proven effective if and efficient. But are not the only, Laura Smpietro-Colom, president of the International Society for Health Technology Assessment, explained that "being a pioneer in technology assessment, the reality is that there is still no real institutional and budgetary support, we have a law and a decree says that any new technology should be evaluated, but not always. " It showed to agree Gerard Urrutia, Iberoamerican Cochrane Center, adding that "there is a lack of quality research, and there are few studies evaluating reliably the potential benefits of new surgical techniques and procedures with respect to the previously existing" .
Therefore the objective is marked on this day is to create a new road map, and even a certain agenda, which will mark a new line to be followed by the conclusions drawn here extracted by various experts. This line of action will be edited and distributed to all the stakeholders, before regional elections. For its part, the WTO showed their commitment to this cause, for four different reasons.
